Nature and wildlife found in Singapore's Japanese Garden image galleries featuring Purple, Grey and Little Heron, and Little Egret
In March 2013, as recommended by a local photographer I met at Sungai Buloh, I went to the Japanese Garden in Jurong something I hadn't done for many years and hadn't planned to do so on that visit. I was not disappointed – a superb place for wildlife and nature photography. I was able to get some good images of five species of Heron, four species of Kingfisher together with a few other bird species.
Herons are in the family Ardeidae, with 64 species including egrets and bitterns I photographed five of these species in the gardens:
Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea)
Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)
Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)
Striated or Little Heron (Butorides striatus)
Yellow Bittern (Ixobrychus sinensis)
Kingfishers found in the gardens and photographed are Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris), Stork-Billed Kingfisher (Pelargopsis capensis), White-throated (Pelargopsis capensis) and the Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis).
