Singapore's China Town in the eighties showing images old shop houses and street traders plying their trade
When I first visited China Town in 1974, it was showing its age and in need of refurbishment but very photogenic and high on my favourites list of places to photograph.
Over the years, the area has been modernised giving less opportunity to take character images. Modern high-rise buildings have replaced many of the old shop houses nerveless a few remain. Many buildings have conservation status, but renovated properties have had their original use changed and street traders have almost vanished.
