Melbourne and its suburbs suffer, as do most big cities from traffic congestion, so with only three days to visit the 'must dos' choosing a good location is essential to avoid the traffic. On the three-day tour itinerary is Melbourne City, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the gardens in Cranbourne and a tour of the Mornington Peninsula covering: travel, nature, landscape and wildlife photography – so a motel in South Melbourne suburbs is a good choice.
From Meeniyan, the last stopover in Gippsland, it's a 100 Km drive to Cranbourne and then 40 Km to the motel in South Melbourne. So make an early start and stop for a full day visit in the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne before driving to the motel. Spend the morning in the bushland where there are several walking tracks and in the afternoon tour of the Australian Garden.
On day-two, avoid the morning rush by making an early start. Drive into Melbourne City from the motel in Highett and take advantage of the early-bird parking in one of the South Bank car parks near the Arts complexes. From Southbank, it's an easy walk to see City with lunch in China town and the afternoon in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
On the final day in Melbourne, tour the Mornington Peninsula visit The Briars Park, Briars Wildlife Sanctuary.
