Birds of Prey Photographed in Forest/Woodland near Water Habitat
Hawks, eagles and relatives are part of the Accipitridae family, Accipitriformes order while the owls belong to the Strigidae family, Strigiformes order. I photographed all the birds of images in Singapore.
Hawks, Eagles and relatives (Accipitridae)
The black baza (Aviceda leuphotes) is a winter visitor to Singapore; it is a small kite that I photographed in Pasir Ris Nature Park at the edge of tropical woodland where it was feeding on insects.
Brahminy kites (Haliastur indus) are large birds (up to 52cm) that are resident in Singapore, I photographed them at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve where they fish in the Johor Straight. I've also observed them at Dairy Farm Nature Park.
Grey-headed fish eagles (Ichthyophaga ichthyaetus) are large (up to 75cm), a IUCN Near Threatened locally common species that are resident in Singapore. I photographed one individual at Dairy Farm Nature Park, where it was perched ready to fish in the lake.
White-bellied sea-eagles (Haliaeetus leucogaster) are large (up to 75cm) that are resident in Singapore, I photographed them at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Dairy Farm Nature Park where they hunt. These birds seem to have a hard time, I've observed them being harassed buy crows, grey-headed fish eagles and brahminy kites.
The following sequence of images was photographed at Dairy Farm Nature Park and shows an adult grey-headed fish eagle appearing to attack an immature white-bellied sea-eagle. The white-bellied flies faster to get away, then gains height and gets behind the grey-headed, finally swooping down to attack the grey-headed which then flies off.

Brown Hawk-owl (Ninox scutulata) or Brown Boobook is a winter visitor to Singapore; it is a small owl up to 33cm that I photographed Bukit Timah Nature Reserve at the edge of tropical forest where it was roasting after hunting insects during the nocturnal hours.
